Schedule Buick Timing Belt Replacement in Atlanta, Georgia
A timing belt is a toothed belt that keeps the top half of your engine aligned with the crankshaft and pistons in the bottom of the engine. Timing belt replacement is important because allowing it to go unrepaired can lead to very expensive engine damage. Your timing belt choreographs the timing of your combustion process as your pistons travel up and down in the cylinder. Intake valves open at a specific time to let in air and fuel and they close at a specific time to allow the fuel to burn, and then the exhaust valves open at the right time to let out the exhaust.
This may sound like a complicated process, but the timing belt is designed to make it all happen seamlessly. A typical timing belt replacement timeline is every 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. A faulty timing belt can have a directly negative impact on your engine. If your timing belt breaks while driving, your engine will stop working completely. The best way to avoid this is through preventative scheduled maintenance.
McCullough NAPA Auto Care staffs ASE Certified technicians with the experience and technology to properly diagnose any timing belt issues you may be experiencing with your Buick. We’ve been in business since 1969 and have ample experience repairing and replacing timing belt systems for any Buick model, including the Encore, Envista, Enclave, and older models.

Graham was great and was up front about everything that needed to be done. My son's jeep went down on the Saturday before Memorial Day and they had him ready around 1pm that Thursday. Quick turn around in my eyes. Nice employees, everyone was cordial and friendly.

June 4, 2021I may have written one other recommendation in my of 50 years, but after doing business with Eric McCullough for 35 of those years it is time to write another one. He maintained and serviced my auto's, my wife, kids and employees for 32 of those 35 years. He has stood behind the work on everything he and his employees have done. He operates his business with great honesty and integrity. I highly recommend doing business. with McCullough

May 4, 2021Wow! I am so impressed with the service I received. Having moved here from Nashville I was nervous about finding a mechanic! These guys are BUSY but they treat every customer like their priority. I got my car repaired within two days on a weekend! Prices can’t be beat and I was getting phone calls with detailed status updates. Amazing service. Really compassionate. Please doing business! I thought I was going to have to spend thousands fixing the plate that was dragging under my car but I got it fixed for under $200! Thank you!!!

I have recommended McCullough's several times to my neighbors in the neighborhood blog. I have used this company for many years and they are always helpful. It is great to have a garage you can trust.

September 8, 2019Eric at McCullough has been taking care of my family's [multiple] cars for over 10 years now. A Volkswagen, a Nissan, and 2 Acuras: They've done minor repairs all the way to major transmission replacements. Eric is trustworthy, honest, and tells you what really needs to be done versus what can wait. Their prices seem reasonable (although in fairness I haven't been anywhere else recently b/c I'm so pleased with them), they are timely, and always communicate what the car needs in detail. I can't recommend these guys enough!

September 19, 2019I would normally recommend this business as I have been here a few times. I went there Friday for an oil change. However, I honestly didn't feel safe. They have signs that customers must wear a mask. There was only one employee wearing a mask themselves. All the others didn't have a mask on. I feel this is disrespectful to their customers. I understand it can be uncomfortable but it is essential during these times.

Kept me updated through out the process and fixed the problem on my car at a fair price. I will definitely make this my new place to go for all my car repairs and maintenance needs, along with sending my friends their way.

Came in for emissions and they exceeded my expectations! Saw headlight out, replaced it. Saw no oil sticker, checked it and put a little in it until i can get back in for change. While waiting you could tell these guys really care about their customers and the safety of their vehicles. Definitely will be coming back here!

December 1, 2020Great customer service! Eric and team did an awesome job coordinating their busy schedule with the schedule of my girlfriend and myself so that we would have a car during the work week and then trade off cars when the other was ready. They are extremely friendly and it felt like they had us as the customer in mind. Highly recommend!

July 19, 2020Brian and the team were fantastic with handling my issue. In fact they discovered a major error which occurred when I had my last oil change done at a quick oil change place, which turned out to be the cause of my issue. They took pics of it and wrote out an explanation for me to give to the previous oil chance place. Because of their extra effort, I am getting reimbursed for the error. I highly recommend Brian and the team!

August 30, 2020McCullough has been my family's go-to mechanic for decades. Don't know what I would do without them - just a super-nice family that will take care of your cars. Their service is important to us because once we get a new car, we like to hold onto it for years (10-12). Highly recommend.

December 3, 2021I had a check engine light on Saturday afternoon, ended up being an engine coil pack needing to be replaced. It was obviously super busy and I knew I would need to leave it until Monday to get looked at. Staff was very informative and communication was excellent. Got it looked at Monday and ordered necessary part to come in the next day. Went ahead and did the spark plugs as well since I was nearing 60k miles. Picked it up after lunch with no issues. Seems like they do really well with the small space provided and very busy area right off 285

October 21, 2021I have used McCullough for maintenance on my prior vehicle and received great service. Recently I had to repair my front bumper - I received an estimate for repair services that was reasonable. The estimated turn around time was less days than other auto shops. The best part was, the staff (Graham) was accommodating with my schedule and the repair was completed as expected/on time. The work completed was great. I absolutely recommended McCullough for auto care services.

February 23, 2021Eric has been my service manager for years. He is always professional and easy to deal with. He goes out of his way to take care of your needs and makes accommodations to the customer when needed. They will ferry me and my car to and from their shop (I live within blocks) and I appreciate that very much. Everyone at McCullough is nice, friendly and helpful.

Signs You Need Timing Belt or Timing Chain Replacement
A bad timing belt may produce a ticking, rattling sound from the engine as the belt develops a looser fit against the engine. Misfiring or backfiring is also common with bad timing belts. Here are 5 signs that your Buick timing belt or timing chain needs replacement.
Engine Misfire: One of the primary signs of a timing belt or chain issue is engine misfires. The timing belt or chain synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshaft so that the engine’s valves open and close at the correct times. If the belt or chain is worn or damaged, it can slip and cause the engine to misfire. If left unresolved, this can lead to a catastrophic engine failure.
Ticking Noise from the Engine: A ticking noise from the engine is often indicative of a worn or loose timing belt or chain. The belt or chain connects the crankshaft to the camshaft, controlling the opening and closing of the engine valves. If it’s loose, it can produce a ticking or clicking sound as the engine runs. This should not be ignored as it may lead to serious engine damage.
Rough Idling or Difficulty in Starting the Car: When the teeth on the timing belt wear out, they can detach and fall into the timing chain cover, causing the engine to idle roughly or making it difficult to start the car. The engine may also stutter or stall due to the inability of the valves and pistons to synchronize properly.
Oil Leakage: A worn-out timing belt or chain can lead to oil leakage from the front of the motor. The belt or chain runs through various engine components, and wear and tear can cause these components, like the timing cover, to loosen. This looseness can result in oil leakage, which can lead to more severe engine issues if not promptly addressed.
Engine Fails to Turn Over: If your Buick’s engine will not turn over or start, it may be due to a broken timing belt or chain. The timing belt or chain is essential for the pistons and valves to function correctly. A broken belt or chain means that these components won’t move, leading to the engine failing to start.
In all these cases, it’s crucial to get the car to a service center for inspection as soon as possible. Ignoring these warning signs can lead to more severe and expensive damage, including possible engine failure.
Can a Broken Timing Belt or Chain Destroy My Buick Engine?
The answer is tricky as it depends on what type of engine you have. Interference engines can easily be destroyed by a broken timing belt, whereas non-interference engines are unlikely to be damaged from a broken timing belt. However, even with a non-interference engine, you should still follow your Buick’s recommended timing belt replacement cycle. If you’re unsure what type of engine your Buick has, the technicians at McCullough NAPA Auto Care can determine that for you and make recommendations for how best to repair or replace your timing belt.
