Transmissions are heavy-duty pieces of equipment that are designed to last a long time. But like any other machine, they’ll eventually wear out and need repair. Automatic and manual transmission repair and fluid flushes are common services, but scheduled auto maintenance can prevent major repair and transmission replacement.
McCullough NAPA Auto Care has ASE-Certified technicians with years of transmission repair and replacement experience in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Contact us to schedule your appointment and to receive your complimentary multi-point inspection with scheduled service.

Schedule Transmission Repair or Replacement in Sandy Springs, GA
A car’s transmission is responsible for ensuring that the right amount of power goes to each of its wheels at any given speed. Your transmission must work properly, or it may negatively impact other components of your car. Please complete the form below if you have any questions about transmission repair or replacement or if you’d like to schedule a time to bring in your car. We are located in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
Signs That Your Transmission Needs Repair or Replacement
Transmission repair or replacement is not a service that you want to put off. A faulty transmission can cause other parts to wear out faster, so we urge you to bring your car in for an inspection if you notice any of these signs your transmission is failing.
1 – Fluid Leak
Transmission fluid is red and smells sweet. Look under your car after it’s been parked for some time to see if you have a transmission fluid leak.
2 – Burning Smell
Old, worn-down transmissions will emit burning smells as they age. This could also be due to your transmission needing a fluid flush. Either way, burning smells are never good, so bring your car in ASAP if you smell burning.
3 – Slipping Gears
It’s unsafe to drive a car with slipping gears as you may not have complete control. You should never drive a car that has gears that slip. If this is the case, schedule service with us soon.
4 – Gears Refuse to Switch
Likewise, if your gears refuse to switch, that’s another problem. This is a tell-tale sign of a bad transmission, but a fluid flush typically will solve the issue.
McCullough NAPA Auto Care has been in business since 1968. During that time, we’ve served Sandy Springs area drivers with quality auto and transmission repair service that we are proud of. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions about transmission repair or replacement for your vehicle.

Eric and his staff were great and helpful. The pricing was fair, and they let us know every step of the way what was wrong and what needed to be changed.

June 28, 2020I have used this company twice and was VERY impressed both times with the honesty, knowledge, and cost-effectiveness of the mechanics that I worked with. They were upfront with me on what I needed to do now vs what could wait, showed me where I could save money, and worked with me to make sure I had my car finished before I needed it that weekend. Again, very very impressed. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else in Atlanta.

Quick and excellent service. I was turned away at my regular mechanic because he said he didn’t know how to do a transmission fluid change. This was my first time ever going to McCullough auto care, and I was very happy with my service. They were able to see me immediately and were patient with me considering the circumstances. Eric was great, and even matched the prices of another mechanic down the road. I will be back! Would recommend!

November 19, 2019I received great service from this location! I called them about replacing a serpentine belt and they got it done for me the very next morning. It was quick, and cheaper than some other places that I had called for the same service. Eric and his team did a great job, and they were very nice! I will definitely return for any other auto repair I may need in the future.

July 13, 2021Brian and the team were fantastic with handling my issue. In fact they discovered a major error which occurred when I had my last oil change done at a quick oil change place, which turned out to be the cause of my issue. They took pics of it and wrote out an explanation for me to give to the previous oil chance place. Because of their extra effort, I am getting reimbursed for the error. I highly recommend Brian and the team!

I really cannot count the number of times these brothers have taken care of me, my family and all our various vehicles. We have been loyal customers for more than 20 years! They have done everything we have needed on cars, trailers, used car evaluations for purchase, tank drops, and all the basics. They are very trustworthy and will give you a honest answer on everything and a reasonable estimate on what it will cost to resolve it. They are super busy, so plan to wait a day or two longer than you might somewhere else, but it is worth it!

May 3, 2022I have used McCullough Auto Care for more than10 years. I needed a reliable auto maintenance service because I commuted weekly to Birmingham. One of the nice things about these guys is they listen when I mention an issue with the car, go over their inspection results of my car and review my bill in detail. I have never been disappointed in their service or the cost of the service I received.

December 1, 2020Eric has been my service manager for years. He is always professional and easy to deal with. He goes out of his way to take care of your needs and makes accommodations to the customer when needed. They will ferry me and my car to and from their shop (I live within blocks) and I appreciate that very much. Everyone at McCullough is nice, friendly and helpful.

May 2, 2021Always extremely professional. Willing to work with customers. Sadly, car repair is expensive but they have worked with me. Graham has been extremely helpful with issues my daughter was having with her car while we were at another mechanic in the area. We asked on Nextdoor for recommendations and McCullough came up numerous times!

November 25, 2019Able to fix issue with my 2011 truck other shops could not address- very hard to diagnose mechanical issue another reputable shops couldn’t figure out. Good prices, done on time, and with expert mechanics. Will have them work on all of my vehicles and highly recommended. Support a family owned business for a change!

February 23, 2021I know for me one hard thing about choosing a mechanic is brushing off all previous notions I have about mechanics Potentially not treating my car how they would treat their own car. This place has done more than exceed my expectations. I got a phone call for every update, I got a thorough description of what was to be done and what was wrong, not only that, but where the dealership said it would take them two weeks to fix my car, these guys did it in less than 24 hours. I have never been happier to spend $300 in my life. Anything I need in the future, you can be sure I’ll bring it here.

McCullough has been my family's go-to mechanic for decades. Don't know what I would do without them - just a super-nice family that will take care of your cars. Their service is important to us because once we get a new car, we like to hold onto it for years (10-12). Highly recommend.

December 3, 2021Graham was great and was up front about everything that needed to be done. My son's jeep went down on the Saturday before Memorial Day and they had him ready around 1pm that Thursday. Quick turn around in my eyes. Nice employees, everyone was cordial and friendly.

June 4, 2021I had a check engine light on Saturday afternoon, ended up being an engine coil pack needing to be replaced. It was obviously super busy and I knew I would need to leave it until Monday to get looked at. Staff was very informative and communication was excellent. Got it looked at Monday and ordered necessary part to come in the next day. Went ahead and did the spark plugs as well since I was nearing 60k miles. Picked it up after lunch with no issues. Seems like they do really well with the small space provided and very busy area right off 285

This place is a life saver. Great communication, great service, and very professional people. Eric worked with me through my whole repair. Kept me updated through out the process and fixed the problem on my car at a fair price. I will definitely make this my new place to go for all my car repairs and maintenance needs, along with sending my friends their way.

Great customer service! Eric and team did an awesome job coordinating their busy schedule with the schedule of my girlfriend and myself so that we would have a car during the work week and then trade off cars when the other was ready. They are extremely friendly and it felt like they had us as the customer in mind. Highly recommend!

How To Prolong The Life Of Your Transmission
The first thing you can do is to make sure your transmission always has enough fluid. Transmission fluid cools and lubricates your transmission’s internal parts. When there’s insufficient fluid, the transmission will run hotter and wear out sooner. The transmission fluid also provides the pressure needed to transfer power from the engine to the transmission. If there’s not enough fluid, your transmission won’t shift properly.
McCullough NAPA Auto Care will check your transmission fluid level as part of our complimentary multi-point inspection with any scheduled service. Likewise, if you see any reddish-colored transmission fluid on your Sandy Springs driveway, have us inspect it for a leak! A gasket, hose, or seal could be leaking and may need to be repaired.
The next thing you can do to prolong the life of your transmission is to replace your transmission fluid on schedule. As you can imagine, all those gears grinding on each other result in lots of little bits of metal in the fluid. The more there is, the faster the transmission parts will wear out. Transmission fluid also contains detergents and other additives to protect your transmission. These additives are depleted over time, so old fluid doesn’t protect as well as new fluid. Your owner’s manual or service advisor will recommend when you should have a transmission service.
If your transmission isn’t shifting as smoothly as it should, or if you suspect a transmission leak, let us look at it. It may be time to consider scheduled transmission service. Regular maintenance and taking care of small leaks will help your transmission last as long as possible.
