Just wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the wonderful people at this company. They’ve helped me out a number of times with quick repairs, honest work, and fair prices. They are good people and the shoot you straight every time. They make sure you understand why they are doing what they are doing and exactly what to expect. Someone give Harrison a raise. I’ve called him a number of times and he’s never failed. I’ll be a customer for years to come.

  • Just completed my first service with McCullough, and I am impressed. I have a CPO 2013 Lexus ES 350 which I have always taken to the dealership for service for the past 8 years. At 150K, I thought it was time to explore less expensive options and more convenient. I interacted with Harrison, who is a true professional and easy to communicate with. Rather than "just do the recommended service", he suggested an oil change and complimentary inspection and then determine what, if any, additional work might need to be done. There was a relatively small amount of additional work which made sense given the age and stage of my vehicle. Pricing was discussed up front and was fair. I live close so after dropping my car off, he and Daniel came to pick me up when the works was done. In this day and age of, as Clark Howard says, "non customer service", I have found McCullough to be the exception that proves Clark's rule. We will be doing more business with them and highly recommend. Adding this after another visit to McCullough NAPA in January 2025: This is my second experience with McCullough and this was just as good as the first one. Brought in my wife's car for an oil change and overall evaluation. Harrison advised we did not need on oil change...how about that, a car place advising what's in the best interest of the customer and not an opportunity to charge for another service. Harrison and team checked out the car and advised us on the vehicle, which will go a long way to our determining if we keep or trade in. The charge was fair and reasonable. We'll be back soon for a service on our other car. Keep up the good work McCullough! Went in for a third experience and Harrison was professional and helpful as always. He pointed out some items to be on the lookout for not pressuring for immediate action. Good to have a heads up for what might be coming down the road. Will back on 6 months, or mileage, for another oil change and tire rotation and overall "health" check.

My 2012 Genesis needed a new battery, so I looked at various sources and found McCullough NAPA Auto Care reviews to be reassuring and helpful. I am very glad I went there. The lot is crammed with cars to be worked on or awaiting pickup after being serviced, but the gentleman directed me to park near the service doors after I explained my need. He immediately escorted me inside, I completed a work order, and he showed me to the waiting area. I'd say the work took maybe 30 minutes, and the service agent with whom I'd spoken on the phone about a battery, called me to the desk and handed me the keys, thanking me for coming in and directed me to my car waiting in front of the service area. Everyone was very professional, friendly, and careful to explain problems found in customer vehicles, as I overheard with several people who had come in while I was waiting. I would say, aside from friendly, honesty was my strongest impression of this family run business, and I will be back!

This was our first repair at McCullough NAPA Auto Repair. They came highly recommended by several neighbors on the Nextdoor app. We had an excellent experience and the price was very competitive. For example, our oil change is usually around $90. and it was around $75. Eric, the owner, called with a quote for the repairs and found an issue with the oil that could have damaged the engine. I was grateful for that and decided to let them do their multi-point inspection. They found a few small issues none of which were super expensive. Then Eric, the owner, called at every milestone of the repair. He was approachable yet professional and to the point. I was always informed on the progress of their work and the car was ready quickly. I would recommend

I’ve come here twice before and was happy with the work. But when picking my car up on the third visit I learned that my bill was more than double the price that was initially quoted to me (+$2,800 instead of $1,300), which was a substantial difference for me. The shock of learning this when pulling out my wallet to pay at the front-desk was very embarrassing to say the least! They did a good job, but my advice if you bring your vehicle here is to make sure to learn more about your quoted price. In my case, when I asked the cost, I was quoted roughly $1,300 but apparently, as my bill would show, I was only quoted the cost of “parts”. If this distinction was make known to me then I would have made an informed decision based on the price of “labor” as well.

What Do Shocks and Struts Do?

Shocks and struts are critical components of your vehicle’s suspension system. While many drivers in Atlanta think of them only in terms of ride comfort, they play an even bigger role in how your car handles, brakes, and maintains traction with the road. Worn shocks and struts can make your vehicle bounce excessively over bumps, increase stopping distance, and cause uneven tire wear – all of which compromise safety and driving confidence.

Unlike other parts that you may notice only when they fail completely, shocks and struts wear down gradually. This means performance issues can creep in slowly over time, making it harder to recognize just how much your ride quality and handling have deteriorated. Staying ahead of these issues with routine inspections and timely replacements ensures your vehicle performs as it should, whether you’re commuting through Atlanta traffic or driving on Georgia highways.

How Shocks and Struts Work as Part of the Larger Suspension System

Your suspension system is designed to absorb road impacts, keep your tires firmly planted, and provide stability while steering or braking. Shocks and struts are at the heart of this system. Shocks dampen the up-and-down motion of your wheels, preventing excessive bounce, while struts combine the shock absorber with a structural component that supports the vehicle’s weight and alignment.

Together, they ensure your car stays stable when navigating sharp turns, sudden stops, or uneven road surfaces. When shocks and struts are worn, your suspension can’t control weight transfer effectively, which can lead to swaying, dipping, or nose-diving during braking. It’s not just about comfort; it’s about maintaining the safety and handling your vehicle was designed for.

Signs Your Shocks or Struts Are Failing

Because shocks and struts wear out gradually, many drivers don’t realize their suspension is failing until handling or comfort is noticeably compromised. Here are the most common warning signs to look for:

  • Excessive Bouncing After Bumps – If your car continues to bounce several times after hitting a pothole or speed bump instead of settling quickly, the shocks are no longer absorbing motion effectively.

  • Nose-Diving When Braking – A pronounced forward dip when you hit the brakes suggests worn struts that can’t properly control the weight transfer of your vehicle.

  • Leaning or Body Roll in Turns – If your car feels unstable or leans too much during cornering, the struts are likely struggling to provide stability.

  • Uneven Tire Wear – Shocks and struts help keep your tires firmly in contact with the road. When they’re worn, you may notice cupping, bald spots, or irregular tread patterns.

  • Loose or Hard-to-Control Steering – Failing suspension parts can make your steering feel less precise, increasing your stopping distance and making the vehicle harder to handle safely.

  • Visible Leaks or Damage – Hydraulic fluid leaking from the shock or strut housing, or visible dents, cracks, or corrosion, indicate that the part has failed.

If you’ve noticed any of these symptoms while driving around Atlanta, it’s time to have your suspension inspected. The ASE-certified technicians at McCullough NAPA Auto Care can diagnose whether worn shocks or struts are the cause and recommend professional replacement to restore your ride’s comfort and safety.

Benefits of Shock and Strut Replacement

Replacing worn shocks and struts restores far more than just comfort. It directly impacts your vehicle’s safety, handling, and longevity. Here are the key benefits you’ll notice:

  • Improved Ride Comfort – Fresh shocks and struts smooth out bumps and vibrations, keeping your ride more stable and enjoyable whether you’re driving around Atlanta or taking longer highway trips.

  • Better Vehicle Control – Replacements restore the suspension’s ability to manage weight transfer, which helps your car stay steady when braking, accelerating, or cornering.

  • Shorter Stopping Distances – Healthy shocks and struts keep your tires firmly planted on the road, improving traction during sudden stops and reducing your overall braking distance.

  • Extended Tire Life – Proper suspension support prevents uneven tread wear. By replacing worn shocks and struts, you’ll maximize the life of your tires and save on premature replacements.

  • Reduced Wear on Other Parts – A suspension system in good condition lessens the stress on steering components, wheel bearings, and even the frame of the vehicle, helping prevent additional costly repairs.

  • Peace of Mind on the Road – With a more predictable ride and fewer surprises from your suspension, you can drive with confidence knowing your vehicle is safer and more reliable.

When your shocks and struts are replaced by the ASE-certified professionals at McCullough NAPA Auto Care, you’re not just restoring comfort – you’re investing in your vehicle’s long-term performance.

Risks of Putting Off Shock and Strut Replacement

Delaying necessary shock and strut replacement can create a ripple effect of issues that ultimately cost more time and money down the road. When shocks and struts are worn out, your tires lose consistent contact with the road. This increases stopping distances, especially in emergencies, and raises the risk of losing control in sharp turns or during wet conditions. Poor suspension also puts additional strain on your tires, leading to premature tread wear and unexpected blowouts.

Beyond safety, ignoring suspension issues accelerates wear on other critical components such as ball joints, wheel bearings, and steering parts. This not only drives up repair costs but can also leave you stranded if one of these systems fails suddenly. Postponing replacement doesn’t just affect your car’s performance. It can compromise your confidence behind the wheel. Addressing shocks and struts promptly helps your vehicle remains stable, predictable, and running on Atlanta’s busy roads.

How Routine Suspension Inspections Can Save You Money

It’s easy to put off suspension maintenance when your car still feels fine on the road, but waiting too long can be an expensive mistake. The suspension system quietly absorbs the stress of every bump, turn, and stop you make while driving. Shocks and struts are important parts of a suspension system, and when they begin to wear out, small issues can quickly escalate.
