Transmissions are heavy-duty pieces of equipment that are designed to last a long time. But like any other machine, they’ll eventually wear out and need repair. Automatic and manual transmission repair and fluid flushes are common services, but scheduled auto maintenance can prevent major repair and transmission replacement.
McCullough NAPA Auto Care has ASE-Certified technicians with years of transmission repair and replacement experience near Cumberland, Georgia. Contact us to schedule your appointment and to receive your complimentary multi-point inspection with scheduled service.

Schedule Transmission Repair or Replacement in Cumberland, GA
A car’s transmission is responsible for ensuring that the right amount of power goes to each of its wheels at any given speed. Your transmission must work properly, or it may negatively impact other components of your car. Please complete the form below if you have any questions about transmission repair or replacement or if you’d like to schedule a time to bring in your car. We are only a short drive from Cumberland, Georgia.
Signs That Your Transmission Needs Repair or Replacement
Transmission repair or replacement is not a service that you want to put off. A faulty transmission can cause other parts to wear out faster, so we urge you to bring your car in for an inspection if you notice any of these signs your transmission is failing.
1 – Fluid Leak
Transmission fluid is red and smells sweet. Look under your car after it’s been parked for some time to see if you have a transmission fluid leak.
2 – Burning Smell
Old, worn-down transmissions will emit burning smells as they age. This could also be due to your transmission needing a fluid flush. Either way, burning smells are never good, so bring your car in ASAP if you smell burning.
3 – Slipping Gears
It’s unsafe to drive a car with slipping gears as you may not have complete control. You should never drive a car that has gears that slip. If this is the case, schedule service with us soon.
4 – Gears Refuse to Switch
Likewise, if your gears refuse to switch, that’s another problem. This is a tell-tale sign of a bad transmission, but a fluid flush typically will solve the issue.
McCullough NAPA Auto Care has been in business since 1968. During that time, we’ve served Cumberland area drivers with quality auto and transmission repair service that we are proud of. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions about transmission repair or replacement for your vehicle.

October 21, 2021I own and automotive repair business in Jacksonville, but my wife lives in Atlanta and needed tires for her car, so I know good service and fair pricing in this industry. I chose McCullough because of their good reviews and they did not disappoint. They were very professional and took good care of my wife. I would highly recommend them and will continue to use them for her service needs.

October 21, 2019Wow! I am so impressed with the service I received. Having moved here from Nashville I was nervous about finding a mechanic! These guys are BUSY but they treat every customer like their priority. I got my car repaired within two days on a weekend! Prices can’t be beat and I was getting phone calls with detailed status updates. Amazing service. Really compassionate. Please doing business! I thought I was going to have to spend thousands fixing the plate that was dragging under my car but I got it fixed for under $200! Thank you!!!

I know for me one hard thing about choosing a mechanic is brushing off all previous notions I have about mechanics Potentially not treating my car how they would treat their own car. This place has done more than exceed my expectations. I got a phone call for every update, I got a thorough description of what was to be done and what was wrong, not only that, but where the dealership said it would take them two weeks to fix my car, these guys did it in less than 24 hours. I have never been happier to spend $300 in my life. Anything I need in the future, you can be sure I’ll bring it here.

July 19, 2020Eric has been my service manager for years. He is always professional and easy to deal with. He goes out of his way to take care of your needs and makes accommodations to the customer when needed. They will ferry me and my car to and from their shop (I live within blocks) and I appreciate that very much. Everyone at McCullough is nice, friendly and helpful.

I have used this company twice and was VERY impressed both times with the honesty, knowledge, and cost-effectiveness of the mechanics that I worked with. They were upfront with me on what I needed to do now vs what could wait, showed me where I could save money, and worked with me to make sure I had my car finished before I needed it that weekend. Again, very very impressed. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else in Atlanta.

January 20, 2022Had experienced front tire damage hitting metal debris on I-285 just before Rosewll exit. Immediately exited on Roswell and saw NAPA sign and pulled in. Place was busy! But got attention immediately by Jeff service worker. Got tire off my car no waiting. Wow! Determined rim bent but tire still good. He could have sold me a new tire and i would have not known better. So appreciative. Then met with Eric McCullough and quickly arranged to have rim fixed. I decided on new tires for safety and were worn. Eric got me great deal on tires and had my car fixed SAME day. Eric runs a super customer-focused operation. Kudos! Bruce Fike

September 8, 2019Graham was great and was up front about everything that needed to be done. My son's jeep went down on the Saturday before Memorial Day and they had him ready around 1pm that Thursday. Quick turn around in my eyes. Nice employees, everyone was cordial and friendly.

June 4, 2021I live in Brookhaven and work in Duluth and pass dozens of auto repair shops on the route. I will forever go out of my way to go to McCullough. This is hands down the best repair shop I’ve ever been to. They are honest, kind, and treat each customer with the utmost respect. I’ll never take my cars anywhere else!

Brian and the team were fantastic with handling my issue. In fact they discovered a major error which occurred when I had my last oil change done at a quick oil change place, which turned out to be the cause of my issue. They took pics of it and wrote out an explanation for me to give to the previous oil chance place. Because of their extra effort, I am getting reimbursed for the error. I highly recommend Brian and the team!

February 3, 2022I would normally recommend this business as I have been here a few times. I went there Friday for an oil change. However, I honestly didn't feel safe. They have signs that customers must wear a mask. There was only one employee wearing a mask themselves. All the others didn't have a mask on. I feel this is disrespectful to their customers. I understand it can be uncomfortable but it is essential during these times.

August 2, 2021I had a check engine light on Saturday afternoon, ended up being an engine coil pack needing to be replaced. It was obviously super busy and I knew I would need to leave it until Monday to get looked at. Staff was very informative and communication was excellent. Got it looked at Monday and ordered necessary part to come in the next day. Went ahead and did the spark plugs as well since I was nearing 60k miles. Picked it up after lunch with no issues. Seems like they do really well with the small space provided and very busy area right off 285

July 21, 2021Always extremely professional. Willing to work with customers. Sadly, car repair is expensive but they have worked with me. Graham has been extremely helpful with issues my daughter was having with her car while we were at another mechanic in the area. We asked on Nextdoor for recommendations and McCullough came up numerous times!

How To Prolong The Life Of Your Transmission
The first thing you can do is to make sure your transmission always has enough fluid. Transmission fluid cools and lubricates your transmission’s internal parts. When there’s insufficient fluid, the transmission will run hotter and wear out sooner. The transmission fluid also provides the pressure needed to transfer power from the engine to the transmission. If there’s not enough fluid, your transmission won’t shift properly.
McCullough NAPA Auto Care will check your transmission fluid level as part of our complimentary multi-point inspection with any scheduled service. Likewise, if you see any reddish-colored transmission fluid on your Cumberland driveway, have us inspect it for a leak! A gasket, hose, or seal could be leaking and may need to be repaired.
The next thing you can do to prolong the life of your transmission is to replace your transmission fluid on schedule. As you can imagine, all those gears grinding on each other result in lots of little bits of metal in the fluid. The more there is, the faster the transmission parts will wear out. Transmission fluid also contains detergents and other additives to protect your transmission. These additives are depleted over time, so old fluid doesn’t protect as well as new fluid. Your owner’s manual or service advisor will recommend when you should have a transmission service.
If your transmission isn’t shifting as smoothly as it should, or if you suspect a transmission leak, let us look at it. It may be time to consider scheduled transmission service. Regular maintenance and taking care of small leaks will help your transmission last as long as possible.
