The auto suspension system is critical for proper steering, stopping, and stability. It is what connects your wheels to your vehicle, controls handling, and delivers a smooth ride. The suspension system is made of many different parts, which can become worn down over time.
When you need suspension repair or replacement in Sandy Springs, Georgia, contact McCullough NAPA Auto Care to diagnose and troubleshoot any problems with your suspension and steering system.

Your suspension has a lot of joints and pivot points that allow your wheels to move up and down over bumps and turn as you steer. These parts include ball joints, tie rod ends, the pitman, idler arms, and the control arm bushing, and they will wear out over time. When a joint or other part is worn out, the suspension parts don’t fit together as tight as they should. Handling and steering will have a loose feel, and you may hear strange noises. Your tires will also wear unevenly as they bounce off-kilter down the road.

Signs Your Vehicle Needs Suspension Repair or Replacement
Shocks and struts are part of a vehicle’s suspension system and help to stabilize movements. Shocks and struts also provide control when you turn, accelerate or ride on uneven surfaces. Shocks are individual components of the suspension system, while struts are a major structural component of the chassis and suspension system.
You may be wondering how to tell if your suspension system needs repair or if your shocks and struts need replacement. Here are 3 signs that your suspension system, shocks, and struts, need repair or replacement.
1 – Vehicle Bounces As You Drive
A strut’s primary job is to control your vehicle’s body motion, which includes bouncing. Struts are designed to absorb the up-and-down, side-to-side movements associated with braking, turning, and driving on rough pavement. It is normal for struts to wear down over time. You may need to replace your struts if you notice a certain softness in how your car handles or if your vehicle is generally more bouncy than it once was. Pay extra attention to how your car’s front end handles going over bumps. Too much bounce is a sign you need to replace your struts.
2 – Clunking, Knocking, and Other Noises
When your car’s body moves uncontrollably, specific suspension components may come into contact with each other with more force than they’re designed to. This can lead to worn-out struts, excessive noise, and extra wear on your suspension system. If sounds like repeated clunking, knocking, or banging can be heard while your suspension is engaged, that is a sign you should replace your struts. Driving on a bad strut can damage other areas of the suspension system, so it’s crucial to replace bad struts as soon as you notice regular worrisome noises.
3 – Uneven, Worn-Out Tires
Bad struts won’t be able to keep your tires in constant contact with the road. This will make your car bounce or float as you drive, creating uneven wear patterns on the tread of your tires since they aren’t touching the ground one complete rotation at a time. If your tire tread shows spotty and inconsistent, rather than the wear around the entire perimeter of the tire, that indicates that your struts are failing.

I have used McCullough Auto Care for more than10 years. I needed a reliable auto maintenance service because I commuted weekly to Birmingham. One of the nice things about these guys is they listen when I mention an issue with the car, go over their inspection results of my car and review my bill in detail. I have never been disappointed in their service or the cost of the service I received.

October 29, 2019I had a check engine light on Saturday afternoon, ended up being an engine coil pack needing to be replaced. It was obviously super busy and I knew I would need to leave it until Monday to get looked at. Staff was very informative and communication was excellent. Got it looked at Monday and ordered necessary part to come in the next day. Went ahead and did the spark plugs as well since I was nearing 60k miles. Picked it up after lunch with no issues. Seems like they do really well with the small space provided and very busy area right off 285

My truck broke down when we got to Atlanta on the way to Disney world. A local stopped to help us and recommended this place. This place got me in and got the radiator fixed for a very fair price and on our way the next day very quickly. I was so impressed and it's no surprise they are very busy. Thank you so much and my family all got to the resort and is having a great time!! These people are great and will get your vehicle fixed for a fair price. Plus, you get Napa warranty all over the country at least I did on the repair I got. Please support them!!!

I would normally recommend this business as I have been here a few times. I went there Friday for an oil change. However, I honestly didn't feel safe. They have signs that customers must wear a mask. There was only one employee wearing a mask themselves. All the others didn't have a mask on. I feel this is disrespectful to their customers. I understand it can be uncomfortable but it is essential during these times.

July 19, 2020Eric was amazing from start to finish. I chose this shop for my repair based on previous reviews & I'm glad I did. He made sure to, in my opinion, go above and beyond with his politeness, as well as helping to make the process smooth and to try to save me as many coins as he could, while still getting done what was needed. Very happy with this visit

August 29, 2020This shop is the best. They did everything they could so I would have minimal time without my car such as having all parts ready before they scheduled the repair. They are super nice and no surprises on price. They opened up my bumper and found a part was damaged. They could have left it the way it and no one would have known but they were honest and did the right thing. I recommend 100%.

We have been depending on McCullough's at least since 1997, when we purchased a home only a few blocks away, walking distance really. Had our emissions test a few days ago and want to acknowledge Jack, who completed the tests quickly. I asked him to determine why the backup camera was not in the proper position. It took a bit of time and ingenuity to get everything right. Thanks Jack, for the excellent service.

November 21, 2021The absolute best of the best. I won’t go to anyone else. I’ve been using them 16 years and I’ll use them for 16 more. Eric is a delight!

April 13, 2022Always extremely professional. Willing to work with customers. Sadly, car repair is expensive but they have worked with me. Graham has been extremely helpful with issues my daughter was having with her car while we were at another mechanic in the area. We asked on Nextdoor for recommendations and McCullough came up numerous times!

Honest and fair price!!! I went in for 60k mile service. They said I only needed oil and cabin air filter changed. That is refreshing honesty! Saved me big bucks! This will be my new shop for my car service. ☺

August 22, 2020I have used this company twice and was VERY impressed both times with the honesty, knowledge, and cost-effectiveness of the mechanics that I worked with. They were upfront with me on what I needed to do now vs what could wait, showed me where I could save money, and worked with me to make sure I had my car finished before I needed it that weekend. Again, very very impressed. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else in Atlanta.

Eric has been my service manager for years. He is always professional and easy to deal with. He goes out of his way to take care of your needs and makes accommodations to the customer when needed. They will ferry me and my car to and from their shop (I live within blocks) and I appreciate that very much. Everyone at McCullough is nice, friendly and helpful.

Have been going to McCollough’s for decades! Once I found them, I knew they were honest and professional. Not often one can say that about an auto repair place. They have helped me keep my older vehicles safely on the road for longer than I could imagine. I have always been treated with respect, no matter how large or small the issue, which is excellent and reassuring for an older woman.Highly recommend them!

March 16, 2022McCullough has been my family's go-to mechanic for decades. Don't know what I would do without them - just a super-nice family that will take care of your cars. Their service is important to us because once we get a new car, we like to hold onto it for years (10-12). Highly recommend.

December 3, 2021After recently moving to the area, I had a vehicle emergency where my transmission needed replacing. Graham immediately took me in and was SO kind, professional, and direct about the costs; one of their kind staff members even drove me home after my car was dropped for repair so that I did not have to call a car service. They were so patient with me and got my car back to me in one day completely fixed and ready to go! I will never use any other automotive repair shop in the area! ABSOLUTELY recommend without hesitation!

Quick and excellent service. I was turned away at my regular mechanic because he said he didn’t know how to do a transmission fluid change. This was my first time ever going to McCullough auto care, and I was very happy with my service. They were able to see me immediately and were patient with me considering the circumstances. Eric was great, and even matched the prices of another mechanic down the road. I will be back! Would recommend!
